Our emphasis is to provide beginning faceters with facet rough which is affordable yet usable ... and to be a source for those wishing to try a new material and not wanting to pay for premium facet rough until they have cut the material a time or two (which is a durn good idea). Just as soon as we get this site caught up, there will be a large section of such rough ... for now it is mixed in with a bit better stock, in no logical order - you will just have to look at it all until we can catch up and go organize it all much better ... sorry.

We are not top suppliers in this area, we aim to provide a good variety of facet rough which is affordable as we can make it, but NOT junk. Just email us if you require premium material and we will try to put you in touch with someone who caters to custom needs (though we do have a bit of very nice rough here at good prices).

We have cleaned much of this rough up so that you are not buying a ton of waste and you can SEE what you are getting. Please keep that in mind as you view the pricing - often we have removed 20-30% of the rough material (We do try to leave anything of any value and to leave critical decisions to you, describing any unusual situation we are aware of in the listing). We also strive to describe facet rough as accurately as possible.
Other rough is clearly listed as mine run and includes surface flaws and sometimes matrix in order to establish the fact that it is natural and to allow those who prefer to clean up their own rough to do so. We have still examined the rough and attempt to describe it carefully - there is a greater chance that we have missed some flaw in this type rough though.

We have a great deal of facet rough not yet on the site, please email us if there is something you cannot find at a reasonable price.

There is a real difficulty trying to be honest yet not shoot thyself in the foot. Our purpose here is to provide us both with FUN. No stress about junk on your part, no stress about you on my part. Every attempt is made to be accurate in the descriptions and photos, BUT this is NOT the place to buy facet rough for a $10,000 centerpeice. But rest assured, there is some very nice rough on this site. The type rough is a factor: if i say a sapphire is clean inside and you find some veiling on one end, well, that is pretty normal for sapphires in this price range... in fact our sapphires are well under-priced if i do say so. Cut what you buy and enjoy and learn - I do.

I have been dealing with gem rough for many years now... i have learned that there is absolutely no money in it at this level. I do this because i love the stuff. I am quite expert when it comes to opal ... i am a happy cutter when it comes to facet rough. I did get pretty tired of getting junk from ebay, or breaking the bank to buy rough that was too good for me, from those with much overhead and trying to make a living. This is an attempt to slip in between and bring you a good resource for mild flings. I cut alot of lab grown myself (yeah, i have tons of that and of medium amethysts, etc- but so does everyone else so it will the last thing up here). That is good stuff for daily cutting, in my opinion. Every so often i want a decent piece of ground grown ... this is a good place to get it. Thanks. billb
